A crucial 19th-century amendment and a landmark twentieth-century
Supreme Court ruling: In this two-session program, Allan Ryan unpacks
two pivotal moments in US Constitutional history. The first session
focuses on the Fourteenth Amendment, which transformed and
strengthened the authority of our federal government. The second takes
up the Supreme Court's most important decision on freedom of the
press, New York Times v. Sullivan, rendered in 1964 in the context of
the civil rights movement. You will take a deep dive into each — and
also consider their implications for American society today. Lecture
with Q&A. This program meets on two days (1/11 & 1/13) and the price
covers both sessions. More info can be found at the link.
